Cu-10 wt.% Al Alloys Produced by Spark Plasma Sintering of Powder Blends and a Mechanically Alloyed Mixture: A Comparative Investigation

Cu–Al bronzes are interesting metallic materials, demonstrating higher hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and a lower friction coefficient as compared with unalloyed copper. The powder metallurgy approach to the fabrication of these alloys presents opportunities tailor their phase composition grain size. In present work, structural characteristics, properties Cu-10 wt.% Al obtained by spark plasma sintering (SPS) blends mechanical alloying (based on Cu(Al) solid solution) reported. Alloys different interaction degrees between metals were SPS. demonstrated better sinterability than mechanically alloyed powder: nearly fully dense alloy was SPS blend at 480 °C, whereas temperature 800 °C necessary consolidate powder. hardness electrical conductivity sintered comparatively analyzed.
